Transforming the Community Foundation website.

Overview:

The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc., serves philanthropists who want help the community in a large or small way. They needed a new website that more accurately reflected their uniqueness and offerings.

Goals:

  • Create communities rather than just provide information. The organization wanted to build a place for nonprofits, donors and advisors, to learn and communicate about best practices. The site needed to educate and create a feeling of involvement.
  • Clear up confusion. A lot of people don’t understand what community foundations are all about. This website needed to clear up any confusion.
  • Stay in better touch with people. To create an ongoing relationship, the website needed to incorporate ways to keep in touch.

Strategic Solutions:

  • Playing-up flavor and character of this particular organization. The old website took a more generic approach. It could have belonged to any community organization. It’s the individuals who run this organization that make it extra-special. We highlighted them.
  • Showing full-spectrum. On the old website, there was just a list of grants, applications and deadlines. We restructured the site, and enhanced design and content, to show everything they offer, to everyone they serve.
  • Adding a blog to share stories. With so many interesting stories, there needed to be a place to share them—so we added a blog and incorporated social media.

Outcome:

The redesigned, restructured website speaks to all three audiences: nonprofits, donors and advisors, and accurately reflects the full-spectrum of the organization’s offerings.
